Default Converting OfficeVision Documents into MS Word documents

I'm looking for a way to convert our existing OfficeVision/400 documents into MS Word. Has anyone done this and if so how and what product if any did you use. I've tried to use the CVTDOC command to convert them to an RFTDCA type document but that fails all the time. So, if any one has any answers to this questions I'm here and ready to hear what you folks have to say about this.

I was going to provide my standard answer to this reply which is to check out the redbook "How to Replace OfficeVision/400 in Your Applications: Looking at Domino for AS/400 and AS/400 Alternatives, SG24-5406-00", but before I did, I went out and actually started reading that redbook. I'm no longer going to reccommend this book because the only solutions it provides are: 1. Dump OV/400 2. Buy and use Domino 3. Or buy and use DTM/400 from Inventive Designers. I never realized until now that this particular redbook was nothing more than a commercial.

If you are using OFFICE '97, you must go the MS Office website, and download the RTF converter. This is free, but the entire text conversion package is downloaded, and this takes a very long time on a dial-up. If you are using OFFICE 2000, the converter is on the CD-ROM, but is not a part of the default installation. You must specifically install. From that point, conversion is automatic. Dave

Shannon, I was looking for new and exciting information when I ordered "I didn't know you could do that in RPG - A Sorcerer's Guide". I found some very interesting things, but I also found an overabundance of opinion. (You could code it this way or that way equally, but do it my way, because my way is better). These sort of comments were liberally interspersed with the useful stuff. Dave

Mark - You can buy DTM/400 from Inventive Designers or you can go to the following web site www.aia.nl/ and download a free converter that is absolutely wonderful. It actually converts special characteristics like bold and underline. In other words it works great. And it's FREE. It also has batch conversion. Check it out you all. If you want to go from OV to WORD you can't beat this product.

Interesting you should say that about the RPGIV sorcerer's redbook David. I was thinking the same thing when I read it, but I thought that perhaps I was just being overly critical.

I heard, but never confirmed, that the O2K thing will not deal with 97 stuff; neither EXCEL nor WORD. Also, it appears that if you convert a doc to 2000 you cannot get back to 97 and read the doc. bobh
