Default New iSeries 270 Tape Drives

We just upgraded from a 170 to a 270 and now have a major problem. The MLR tape 13g tape drive on the 170 was able to read/write to 2g MLS. The new tape drive will not write to these type of tapes. Also, we had an external 8mm tape drive on the 170 that is no longer supported on the 270. The 270 only allows for two drives and the optical drive (CD) counts as one so we can not even install another tape drive. Does anyone have any solutions? Thanks,
