    Default "Green Screen" Tax?

Chris - "Green Screen Tax" refers to the extra charge incurred when you have to buy more CPW in order to run [additional] interactive sessions on a specified /400 and prevent the CFINT0x job from kicking in to govern down interactive performance. CPW is "Commercial Processing Workload" which is an IBM measurement of comparative processing power (higher CPW = more processing power) over a specific set of tests. (My explanation may not be entirely accurate but it's awfully close! :-) ) HTH, Steve

Another way of looking at it is that you have to pay more to run 5250 workloads on a given size of hardware than you do to run other types of workloads (web, Domino, Java, etc.). Brian

Which I have never understood. It would be like Intel telling you that you had to pay more to use their processor if you were going to run a Java Application, but would charge you less for the hardware if you ran Visual Basic. Go figure.

Excuse my ignorance, but can someone tell what the "green screen" tax is? And what is a CPW? Thanks. Chris

    Default "Green Screen" Tax?

This is a good point. At a user meeting several months ago, an IBMer noted the great discounts available for buying "server" models. After a moment of silenced, I publicly asked why interactive customers had to pay a 90% premium. I never did receive an answer, but the poor guy realized he had a problem when most of the other users started clapping. Dave
