"Some IT vendors just don't know how to take a vacation." <p>IBM announced that the i series had another 15% drop in hardware sales in the quarter they just completed. In stark contrast, other divisions within IBM did very well. <p>Has IBM just given up on the machine formerly known as the AS/400? What's wrong with them? I had intended to try to make a few points about how they might improve the situation, but decided it would be a wasted effort. <p>At this point in time, the best use for the AS/400 is to use it as intended. Put it in the corner and let it run like a reliable workhorse. IBM is not going to pour huge capital investment in an old nag that has sales declines that compound on themselves. Hope may spring eternal, but this is just an old, sad story.
