The real problem is that our egos, desire for finincial gain, apparent need to see our name in print and desire for control has obliterated the application design 101 principle; "whoever touches the data first is responsible for entering it and must share it with all others who need it." If all of our applications were designed from the ground up based upon this principle there would be no 'silos' of information and everyone would have all of the data necessary to maximize their efficiency at minimum expense. All information should be stored and made available for the greater good of everyone and not our personal fiefdoms.
