Power Systems Off to an Impressive Start
Selling a mature and dead-reliable platform such as the System i (i5, iSeries, AS/400, or whatever IBM is calling it this week) can be a problem. For a company can install an AS/400 and run it for literally years with no 'upgrades'. (Once the lying promises of the sales-beasts are dealt with, and it's correctly sized and featured.) Unlike the 'churn and burn' of the Wintel crowd, the principal growth for the S/i is going to be in those applications that require quiet reliability, not daily re-boots.
In my view, that's all applications, but then I'm not a under-thirty ("the world began with my birth") geek.
