All books and articles about RFID imply the system works as expected and designed. We all know that data collection systems are not perfect. Just look at the basic time and attendance / labor reporting system. Corrections frequently need to be made by supervisors to compensate for forgetful employees or broken equipment.
With respect to RFID and blanket scans - for example all items on a pallet going through a gate - how do you make sure it works correctly? You could have a bad tag, RF interference, moved antenna, or more. Other common scenarios with easily anticipated problems could also be described.
What are some typical auditing and recovery techniques?
Given the high cost of even a prototype setup, what are some of the bad things people usually learn on the job?
