ANSI to UTF-8 on IFS 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi All,

I’m quite new to this forum. And found this is Forum as awesome.

My problem is; I have some files in my IFS directory and those are in CSV format and ANSI encoded.
Ex:- /Applications/Downloads/example1.CSV
/Applications/Downloads/example2.CSV

However I need to encode these files to UTF-8 format.

I was able to change the CCSID from 1252 to 1208 using Q shell and CPY command. But still it’s appearing encoded as ANSI.

Please note I used the windows NOTEPAD to open the above said CSV files and I did make sure the encoded method following the SAVE AS option.

I have tried almost every thing according to my little knowledge and end with no result. Any comments would be really really appreciated.
Thank in advance.

Sudesh,

This isn't a strictly iSeries question, so I did a DogPile.com search for converting between ANSI and UTF-8 and found a page that will likely be the most help.

http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum21/11759.htm

There is a mention on this page that Notepad will cause problems when trying to convert. They recommend TextPad for singular files and the Unix utility iconv for batch process.

Since this is all out of my league, I can't suggest anything more except to just treat this as a PC type of problem and that you have the ability to run Unix commands.

I don't see why the file residing on IFS would make any difference. You are very lucky, this came in my email today:
