COMMON Virtual Lab: Integrated File System (IFS) by Margaret Fenlon, IBM

 This virtual lab will be a combination of presentation and work-at-your-own-pace lab portions. Get hands-on experience with the integrated file system and file servers.

 

The virtual lab will cover the following topics:

 

* Accessing IFS - General and ASPs

* Who's Using My Object?

* Collecting/Analyzing Folder attributes

* IFS Journaling

* Authority considerations when copying files and creating    

  objects in the IFS

* IFS Security concepts

* IFS Remote File Systems: NFS, QNTC, QFileSvr.400

 

Virtual Lab Schedule:

* 9:00-9:20 - Introduction, Integrated file system overview,  

  accessing objects and auxiliary storage pools (ASPs)

* 9:20-9:45 - Accessing IFS - Accessing IFS General -         

  Accessing IFS - ASPs

* 9:45 - 10:00 Presenting: "Who's Using My Object?" and       

  Collecting/Analyzing folder attributes (GUI interface to    

  RTVDIRINF/PRTDIRINF)

* 10:00-10:30 - Lab

* Who's Using My Object?

* Collecting/analyzing folder attributes using System i       

  Navigator

* 10:30-10:45 - Break

* 10:45-11:00 - Present Journaling support

* 11:15-12:00 - Journal lab

* 12:00-1:00 - Lunch break

* 1:00-1:30 - Presentation: Authority considerations for      

  copying objects and creating objects in the integrated file

  system

* 1:30-2:15 - Lab: Copy and create

* 2:15-2:30 - Break

* 2:30 - 2:50 - Presentation: IFS security concepts

* 2:50-3:20 - Lab: Security concepts

* 3:20-3:30 - Presentation: Distributed file systems

* 3:30-3:50 - Lab: Distributed file system
