TechTip: Do You Know How to Use PHP Functions?

Before OO came along, functions were all we had!

jeff_olenWritten by Jeff Olen

We RPG developers are still relatively new to the concept of functions. I say "relatively" because some of my readers are still under the impression that embedded SQL is a "new" feature. Perhaps we can just agree that "new" is in the eye of the beholder and leave it at that. But I digress. This article discusses functions in PHP: how to find them, how to write them, and why they are useful.

Qport Office is a time-saving Windows runtime interface to IBM Query/400. Qport Office enables MS Windows users to run Query/400 queries from Windows and send their output directly to Excel, Word, Access, PC printers, and their display. No need to output queries to file and then do a file transfer. Qport Office does it all in one step, without ODBC. Excel users can replace and append to existing worksheets and preserve their formatting so they spend less time copying and pasting. No query conversion or revision required. Ninety days of toll-free installation and software support are included.

Partner TechTip: You Want a Greener Approach to System i Reports and Printed Output

Reduce your company's impact on the environment with ESEND report distribution.

floyd_delmuroWritten by Floyd Del Muro

Paper, paper everywhere! Managing the paper generated by the System i has always been a challenge. Typically, that task falls on the person responsible for manually collating and distributing report segments and other printed output. Over time, companies have tried different ways to route printed output—from creating a broader set of output queues to using processes that automatically fax reports. Some of these approaches still exist and even have their place in certain situations. Unfortunately, these types of solutions don't address the demands placed on IT departments today.
