DRV Technologies, Inc., the developer of SpoolFlex report and document management software, has announced the addition of e-mail authentication to it's software. The new feature removes an obstacle for companies wanting to send e-mails from their IBM Power Systems (IBM i, iSeries, and AS/400s). SpoolFlex is an IBM Power Systems host-based application that allows organizations to reduce printed output from their application by transforming and distributing reports as PC-compatible files including Excel and PDF files via e-mail without any programming.

"Many organizations encounter requirements by their e-mail service provider to send e-mail with authentication due to increased abuse by spammers," says Richard Voss, president of DRV Technologies. "The most common method of sending e-mails from the IBM System i (using IBM API's) does not support authentication. We developed our own method for sending e-mail directly from our software that bypasses the requirement for any IBM e-mail API's."

According to Voss, the new authentication feature enables companies to send e-mail directly from their IBM i system and fully supports authentication with minimal setup. "Many companies are realizing they can greatly reduce costs by sending reports as e-mail but then run into a wall when their e-mail service provider requires e-mail authentication but their IBM System i doesn't support it. Since we have added e-mail authentication into all of our products, there has been an overwhelming demand for the update," Voss says.
