The recently acquired system performance and capacity planning utility gets a new streamlined user interface, enhanced performance, and updates to its capacity planning simulator.

Halcyon Software has announced a major release of Snapshot TSC (Total Systems Control), a system performance and capacity planning utility for the IBM i platform.  The software notifies IT administrators of any performance problems or application issues that could adversely affect the performance of IBM i servers and seriously impact critical business operations.

Snapshot TSC V11.0 is the third release of the product under the new ownership of Halcyon Software.  The software was acquired from Mid-Comp International Pty Ltd in May 2010.

Halcyon specializes in multi-platform systems management solutions which support IBM i, AIX, Windows, and Linux platforms.

Snapshot TSC V11.0 has a number of key enhancements which include modernizing  the graphical user interface (GUI) to provide Windows theming to toolbars and icons, a significant improvement in the speed of the application as well as an update to the capacity planning simulator to include the latest editions of the Power Systems technology released by IBM.

Donnie MacColl, Director of Technical Services at Halcyon, said “The GUI refresh times are a lot quicker, the performance enhancements ensure the whole product runs much quicker under the covers, and the code has been improved making it far more efficient. As a result, the product will be easier to maintain and it will be quicker to add new features in the future.”

Some minor bug fixes from previously reported issues have also been solved and standardized. A menu option has been added so that when the IBM i system is restarted, Snapshot is automatically restarted at the same time to ensure the IBM Collection Tools are synchronized at all times with the Snapshot utility.

MacColl continues, “The main objective of this major release is to update and modernize the solution but without alienating the loyal following of Snapshot customers. We are committed to enhancing and maintaining the product and another major release is planned within the next six months."

The Snapshot customer base has an international spread and is supported in North and South America, Europe and Asia Pac by authorized resellers and partners.

Halcyon is interested in hearing suggestions from all Snapshot TSC customers and resellers on what they would like to see added to the software so these items can be included in the development roadmap.

Customers can email snapshotsupport@halcyonsoftware.com with their ideas for future enhancements or visit www.halcyonsoftware.com/snapshot for more information about Snapshot TSC V11.0.
