MMS 7.1.0 puts backup set data onto low-cost Windows server; new interface enhances speed, power, control, and functions, company says.
LXI Enterprise Storage announced at COMMON the release of its Media Management System (MMS), release 7.1.0, for the IBM System i.
MMS is a comprehensive storage management application that efficiently preserves, protects, and recovers data. Data availability is critical for successful recovery, and MMS provides end-to-end data protection.
This "next generation" release introduces a major shift in MMS design. This revolutionary design provides MMS users with unparalleled control and access to all MMS systems in the System i network through a single Windows graphical user interface, according to the company. MMS data is centralized on a Microsoft SQL server providing a single point of control for all media information. The new client/server design uses native TCP/IP for all communications and SSL to ensure data security. Consolidated control allows users to manage and monitor backup and recovery jobs--regardless of system or system location. Job logs can be viewed in real-time or after the job completes. MMS Console notifies the user of any System i message which may occur on any system in the MMS network and allows the user to respond accordingly. MMS database changes provide more options and greater flexibility to all MMS functionality.
MMS simplifies, prioritizes and automates backups and backup policies, performs concurrent saves, and automates recovery options. Spool file management automates the archiving and restoring of spool files, reports, and special forms. Because MMS uses no proprietary commands, the integration into the customer environment is seamless. MMS release V7.1 is certified to run on IBM i 6.1 and IBM i 7.1.
Automated tape consolidation and duplication, device management, and tape library management bring cutting-edge iSeries backup control to the data center. Quick access to saved data, extensive vaulting, and offsite management gives customer confidence in a quick recovery in the event of a disaster. MMS gives managers the flexibility to adapt the solution to a wide range of data protection and recovery requirements. To learn more about LXI, visit us at www.lxi.com or call 214-260-9002.
