SPSS stands for Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, but the cool thing is that IBM will let anyone from any business use it. Pretty slick, eh? What is it? Thought you’d never ask.

Last month—the last two months actually—we talked about IBM Watson Studio and how it could help you fully develop your AI project without needing a PhD in Data Science or heavy Python/R knowledge.
The cloud is forcing business IT operations and staff roles to evolve. Learn more about the changes and new opportunities the cloud is bringing to IT
by Ashok K. Iyengar
Editor’s Note: This article is excerpted from chapter 7 of IBM Cloud Platform Primer, by Ashok K. Iyengar.
The biggest changes that cloud computing brings to an enterprise are changes in mindset and operational transformation. While some of these changes are abstract, there are very concrete things that IT organizations can and should do to take full advantage of the cloud environment. From redefining roles to taking on new responsibilities, this chapter discusses the various operational and organizational transformations afoot in large IT organizations.
Welcome to the fifth installment of the popular IBM i Marketplace Survey Results. Each year, HelpSystems sets out to gather data about how businesses use the IBM i platform and the IT initiatives it supports. In fact, the survey is now revealing long-term trends that give insight into the future of this trusted technology.

Past surveys have sparked many thoughtful conversations about IBM i, and we’re thrilled to be part of such an engaged community. 2018 was a big year for the platform, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in June with fond memories from longtime users and a look toward what’s next, along with the launch of POWER9.
More than 750 people from around the globe participated in this year’s survey, and we’re so happy to share the results with you. We hope you’ll find the information interesting and useful as you evaluate your own IT projects.

The HLPARA keyword is a great first step to providing help, but HLPPNLGRP provides your users with next-level support. See them in play here.

In my previous article, I described the underlying architecture of contextual help for the IBM i 5250 interface: define rectangles on your display and assign help text to them. I focused entirely on defining the rectangles and purposely didn't go into any detail on the actual help text. That's because the keyword used for defining the rectangles (HLPARA) is the same no matter which help text technique you use. Now that we know how to access the help text, it's time to learn how to write it.
In this second and final part of this short series about mobile app dev, let’s talk about grids and glyphicons.
By Jan Jorgensen
In a previous article, I covered how the grid system in Bootstrap works, so in order not to bore you I will try not to repeat myself.
The grid system in version 4 is still based on a maximum of 12 columns! But even though the grid system seems the same from version 3 to 4, something has changed under the hood. In Bootstrap 3, the grid system was based on floats, but that changed in Bootstrap 4; it is now based on flexbox.
Intruders and rogue employees alike are able to invisibly exploit weaknesses from the inside out. This online eCourse allows you to browse various AIX security topics to learn how to mitigate common threats to your AIX environment.
By Core Security
Editor's note: This article introduces the AIX Security Basics eCourse, which is On-Demand and available to download and view from the MC White Paper Center.
With thousands of configuration settings and permissions to manage inside of AIX systems, it can seem overwhelming to ensure these systems maintain proper compliance. From users, password services, file, and directory permissions to how file systems are mounted and configured, there are countless elements to be on the lookout for. As you expand this into many different systems and start adding in Linux machines, which have the same compliance rules, and then add in your Windows machines with the same compliance rules, you quickly understand the tremendous scope you are managing, even in a small configuration with a few dozen systems.

Ghosts and witches—they’re kid stuff. But there really are other things to be afraid of.

This being October, Steve Pitcher has a bit of a Halloween scare for you. But this goblin isn’t a fantasy. It’s real. IBM has announced end of support for the exceptionally popular POWER7 machines. Will IBM offer extended hardware maintenance? Who knows? It hasn’t happened yet. Read Steve’s article to see his perceptions of what some may consider a truly horrifying announcement.
The AS/400 platform (a.k.a. iSeries or IBM i) is behind the scenes at many organizations around the world, reliably storing trillions of records and running the large-scale applications that power their business.
By Chuck Losinski
Editor's note: This article introduces the white paper What to Do When Your AS/400 Talent Retires, which is free to download from the MC White Paper Center.
The advantages of this platform have been obvious to its user community—who are its most stalwart supporters—for decades. But this community is in the midst of a demographic shift. Many of the most experienced AS/400 resources are reaching retirement age.
These days, consumers expect retailers to provide information tailored personally just for them.
In the industry’s current disruptive environment, retail and consumer product companies are competing with new business models and being forced to refresh their consumer experiences and brand engagements to be more relevant.
A new IBM study finds retailers' current strategies to deliver engaging brand experiences are not keeping pace with what customers’ expect and want out of their brick and click shopping experiences.
Do you realize how many of your personal or business devices are connected to the Internet? Let's talk about that.

The Internet of Things (IoT): You've heard somebody talk about it; or you've read about it in a newspaper, in a tech magazine, or on a website; or you've attended a seminar or conference where somebody told you about the next big thing.
