Morph CloudServer, based on IBM BladeCenter S, may streamline large-scale software development and deployment.

Today at the ITU Telecom World (http://www.itu.int/WORLD2009/) conference, G2iX unveiled the Morph CloudServer (http://www.g2ix.com/morph), the first appliance using open standards to dynamically create custom Platform as a Service (PaaS) environments.

Following industry-leading standards established by Amazon's (http://aws.amazon.com/solutions/case-studies/morph/) Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2 (http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/)) and Eucalyptus (http://www.eucalyptus.com/), the Morph CloudServer offers unprecedented flexibility, control, and agility for developing and deploying software on a massive scale, the company says.

Businesses now have a more effective way to safely pilot new ideas, facilitate global expansion, and significantly decrease time to market, according to the company. "For now, private cloud computing will not just be a viable term, it will be a significant strategic investment for most large organizations," said Gartner Research VP Phil Dawson in a recent release (http://www.gartner.com/it/page.jsp?id=1193913). "We predict that through 2012, more than 75 percent of organizations' use of cloud computing will be devoted to very large data queries, short-term massively parallel workloads, or IT use by startups with little to no IT infrastructure."

Additional Morph CloudServer benefits:

  • Real-time server provisioning—A simple drag and drop graphical interface makes it easy to customize, deploy, adjust, or decommission compute resources at will from within a Web browser. The Morph CloudServer is also the first completely customizable private PaaS that can be tailored to match and support virtually any development language or framework.
  • Scalability—Scalability is embedded in the Morph CloudServer. It offers a complete framework out of the box, with 100 fully customizable and adaptable Virtual Machines.
  • Reliability—The Morph CloudServer is designed with a philosophy of fault tolerance, not fault avoidance. In addition to distributed application servers, an auto-provisioned database, continuous monitoring, backups and self-healing subsystem, the CloudServer offers the proven reliability of its IBM BladeCenter S chassis.
  • Secure, private clouds—The Morph CloudServer allows companies to take full advantage of their existing security infrastructure and maintain complete control of their core enterprise applications by enabling private clouds inside the enterprise.

"Cloud Computing for the enterprise is about efficiency," says Winston Damarillo, founder and CEO of G2iX. "The Morph CloudServer accelerates software development by providing companies with an instantly available platform as a service framework designed to support any corporate standard."

"Cloud computing technology, such as the Filipino co-developed Morph CloudServer, provides emerging countries with affordable access to world-class ICT infrastructure," said Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua, secretary of the Philippines' Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT). "The country is very proud of the Filipino engineers who played a significant role in developing this technology. Their success is a testament to the ability of the Philippine IT-BPO industry to provide globally-competitive products and services."

The Morph CloudServer offering in summary:

  • 100 Virtual Machines (VMs) on an IBM BladeCenter S for $6,500 per month
  • Customizable PaaS with pre-built support for Java, Ruby on Rails and PHP
  • Source code management: Subversion and Maestro
  • Cloud-based testing using Selenium
  • Each VM is sized as an EC2 regular instance (1.75GB RAM and 1.7MHz equivalent CPU). Other sizes can be created by request
