IBM has been talking a lot about CAMSS in the last few years, meaning Cloud, Analytics, Mobile, Social, and Security. Many of IBM's decisions are now based on if they fit the CAMSS model. In short, if it doesn't have anything to do with CAMSS, then it's probably going to be competing hard for budget dollars within IBM.
There is no upside or silver lining when good people lose their jobs.

On January 19, Forbes contributor Robert X. Cringely wrote a piece on a forthcoming "hell week" in which IBM would begin a 26% "resource action" (RA) that would cost potentially 110,000 employees their jobs. This downsizing is called Project Chrome.
IBM Hong Kong's blog stated on January 26 that "IBM does not comment on rumors or speculation. However, we'll make an exception when the speculation is stupid. That's the case here, where an industry gadfly is trying to make noise about how IBM is about to lay off 26 percent of its workforce. That's over 100,000 people, which is totally ludicrous.
Last week, IBM unveiled IBM Verse, formerly IBM Mail Next. Although impressive, we still need clarification of plan.

The first webcast appeared geared for analysts, and the second was something else entirely, featuring a panel discussion about the state of email and how IBM's vision of it would ultimately make end users' lives much better by adding predictive analytics.

Two months ago, I was literally on a 17-hour ferry ride in the North Atlantic writing a piece entitled "IBM, We Have an SSL Problem." It was one of those pieces that just came together the way musicians sometimes write complete songs in about a half hour.

What you have to remember is that most updates for IBM i 7.2 TR1 are included in IBM i 7.1 TR9. More details will follow. From what I understand, everything I'm writing about today is included in both TRs.
