iSeries Sales Growth: A Closer Look

** This thread discusses the article: iSeries Sales Growth: A Closer Look **
I disagree with Lee Koon acessment that iSeries/400 sales have fallen faster than the server market. Accoding to the IDC, worldwide server sales were $70 billion in 2000. The AS400 at less than $3 billion was 4% of that market. In 2003 new server sales will be around $45 billon, and iSeries will be close to $2 billion, or about 4.7%. This is impressive stacked up to other server, for example consider that ALL Sun servers this year look to fall to a total of less than 12% of the market. While it is true that unit shipments are off more than the market as a whole, it is also appears to be true that except for Linux, iSeries has the fastest platform growth rate of new customer units at over 15% growth. Of course there are few platforms remaining, and it is difficult for Windows for example to get double digit new growth due to it's saturation, and UNix is not getting many new converts due to Linux, still this is impressive for iSeries. While the news is mixed, there are still many positives for the iSeries.
