How do I use Data Length of a rich text field in a column formula?

How can I get the Rich Text document field value "Data Length" and use in a view column formula? This attempt, from Domino 6 help did NOT work (shows blank) plainText := @Abstract([TextOnly]; 1000; ""; Subject); @lenth(plainText) Details: the doc-template creates a richtext field "subject" with an empty table. When table is empty the DataLength = 1364 bites. When users enter data in the table the data length becomes > 1364. I'd like the column to say "table empty" when data length is <= 1364. If >1364 "OK". I sure would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks. Jim
