  • Printing Bar Codes from AS400

Unless you are using special "Bar Code Fonts", it is my understanding that you must use an *IPDS or *AFPDS printer to print bar codes. Dave

or a printserver that handles IPDS. It is possible to print barcodes in SCS also, but not so easy. Anders

If you invest in the IBM product Infoprint Designer (5733ID1), Inforprint server (5722IP1), and PSF/400 rinter Support (5722SS1), putting bar codes on a reports is possible.

You must define the PRTF as *AFPDS and the OUTQ with TRANSFORM *YES. Then it works. Best regards, KM

Have you looked at IntelliTech's AS printers? They use HP PCL5 as the printer command language will probably print anything that you are able to print on an HP Laserjet printer.

We are currently printing bar codes on a zebra printer as well as on ibm network 24 printers via ipds. We have created several virtual printers (IP driven) These printers are either Canon image runner laser printers or just HP laser printer. Problem is we have not found a way to print the bar codes on these printers. We get several garbage lines on the paper. Is there a way to print bar codes on these printers, via the AS400? thanks

Go for an external printserver supporting IPDS, will work with PS or PCL printers. Anders
