OVRPRTF & *DEV

I have an issue with output being printed on a remote printer. There is an OVRPRTF with OUTQ(*DEV). From what I have read, the spool file will be put on the outq with the same name as the device. My question is, what if the device is blank? Where will the output go? How is this determined? Thanks
