    Make Your Career Shockproof

Keeping an eye out for career-impacting changes is wise advice no matter what a person does for a living. It may sound cynical, but everyone is a temp at some level. No matter how well you get along with your boss, you are still regarded at high levels as an expense the owners would love to do without. The best way to deal with this is never go stale and save money for the rainy day that will eventually come. In fact, the best thing anyone could do for themselves is learn to understand personal finance and then live what they learn. The 'miracle of compound interest' works wonders over time. Many mutual funds that have minimal risk (not old lady milk money safe, but still relatively safe) earn 15% and more annually. (No this is not a subtle ad for the current conservative nutball scheme to destroy Social Security) In probably 10 years, computer programming will look only a little like it does today. Most who read this will be obsolete unless they have changed fields or morphed into something that is in line with current day practices. Also, the more gray on the roof, the more the kids will ignore you unless you work for a well managed company or stay out of their way.

Something I heard a long time ago, went something like this: If you don't think everyone works for commission(or for themselves, or as a self employed person)even if they are an employee, then stop producing and see how long you collect your salary.
