Records don't appear out of nowhere. If there is a maintenance program for this data, you might want to put some code in the controlling CL that will identify the user, the time, etc. This way you will not have to journal. Dave

non user added blank records showing up in control files
Sounds like you also have a bug in journaling. Or maybe something in the file system, like deleted records somehow becoming undeleted, with default values. Either way, I'd recommend opening a PMR with IBM, if you're on a supported release.

At my last employer we had a similar problem (because the users refused to tell the truth). We couldn't afford the overhead of journaling, so we wrote trigger programs to do the journaling on the files of interest. Within two weeks we were able to determine which users were causing our problem.

non user added blank records showing up in control files
We have been experiencing a problem for a couple of months. About once a week, we discover a control file(a database with just codes or settings or options) in otherwords, one that should be updated rarely, that has blank records. IBM suggested that we use journaling to check where the bogus records are coming from - they don't show in the journal - just entries for when we delete them. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
