  • Data Transfer (File Transfer) Extremely Slow on new 810

Whenever you upgrade to a new release, you will experience slower performance for a limited period of time. This is due to a number of reasons, most notably:
[*]A change in the access path algorithm[*]QSYS objects are delivered in compressed format[*]The new release occupies more disk space[/list]The cure for the first situation is to reorganize your physical files, this will immediately take advantage of any change. After a few uses, QSYS objects will become permanently (at least until the next upgrade) decompressed, and any time necessary for decompression will disappear. The last problem only should occur if you are approaching critical levels of available free space. Dave

Ann Ann, I'd check first as to the configuration of the Ethernet card in the 400. If it's set to full-duplex, change to half. Check the packet size. This situation sounds like a networking problem, along the lines of the 400 contiuously resending packets. Bill

Ann, Same as what Bill mentioned. But you should also check the configured line speed against the actual network line speed. Ric

We upgraded to V5R2 on our old S20 two weeks ago. All was fine. Then last weekend we went live with our new 810. We have been running a script for several years that downloads 22 files via Client Access Data Transfer and until this weekend took 45 minutes. Now the same files take 3 hours. IBM thus far has no PTFs, etc. to fix. They are reviewing traces, but I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem. Thanks in advance... Ann

The port on the network showed to be set for full duplex (like the line description on the 400), however the port was only running at half duplex (evidently auto-senses problems with cable). We switched the(good)cable from the old S20 to the new 810 and everything is hunky dory.
