  • Windows 95 and V5R2

Chuck, We have been using Win 95 machines with V5R2. We have many different Client Access versions on these desktops: CA32, CA44, CA45, CAX51, no problem. I don't believe you can install the CAX52 on a Win 95 machine, it will only work with Win98 or higher. If you do migrate to V5R2 OS, just make sure you don't delete the old 5763Xxx programs. They come across as *INSTALLED as shown below. If you are buying a new system as part of the upgrade, you probably will not have the option, or ability to load these older connection programs on the new box. In that case, all bets are off. Dale, thanks a bunch. We are upgrading an existing machine, and thus we can keep the older products. Now for one important question - are you accessing the QDLS shared folders on these machines???

Chuck, I sure can. I can map drives, and I still have Netserver up on the iSeries, so the shared folders can be accessed through Network Neighborhood on all 3 of my 820s at V5R2. Don't laugh, but I'm using a Win95 machine right now!

Believe it or not, our company still has several users with Windows 95 systems. As we consider a move to V5R2 (presently on V4R5), and find that it is not likely we will upgrade these systems in the near future (yes - we should, I know!) what have others done with Client Access issues and older systems? We typically only use telnet and shared folder access on these systems. Can the old Client Access run on Windows 95, and connect to V5R2, even if it isn't supported? Anyone else done this, or have other solutions?

Dale, thanks again. I am using a Win98 machine myself... This is very good news to me...
