If we are talking about mobile computing (and since you mentioned GSM), shouldn't we include CDMA?? Such as using an Aircard?? In many populated areas (such as L.A.), Sprint and Verizon have high speed EVDO. In other areas they at least have data capability thru existing 3G connection. These connections can be made using an Aircard or using "phone as modem" connection. Sprint offers "phone as modem" option on all of their new EVDO capable phones. Using this type of connection allows the mobile traveler to be "mobile" without having to reconnect to different WiFi networks. We have many users connecting to the Internet as will as VPN connections while "being stuck in LA traffic". Just a thought....
