bill, we are using "client Access" pc emulation. using "NT Server" for the network and "NT workstation" for the desktops. thanks, mike

At what point are you running into the upper case problem? Is it in creating a source member for the automation, for example? Bill

bill, don't see why either...if i get into the source editor via strpdm...i can enter the "set caps off" on the command line...it accepts the command however, the text still appears in uppercase. additionally if i change the session defaults via cmd key 13 (allow uppercase only) option to "n' , i still get the same result....it seems that no mateter where i key on any program via command line (CL) or inside the source editor, all i get is upper case. whats is peculiar to me is that this only seems to have been noticed by me recently, i can see program comments and code, in both clp and rpg400 programs where i have used lowercase before. is there some system wide default that could be overriding the session ? I've been playing with the AS400 since the early 1990's and this is a first for me ! here is a couple of example from the system.. thanks for your response. mike

Are you really saying that this is a problem only for you and your pc emulation? I think it's safe to say that this has nothing to do with SEU or anything on the 400. I suggest you look at your keyboard customization settings. What are the "base" settings for the letters? As a test, try one of the other .kmp customization files. Bill

Since it's happening on the command line as well, I'd really suggest trying a different .KMP file. And just for giggles: what happens when you hold down shift and type a letter? Caps-lock? Bill

bill, tried the radio button...no difference...i would like to try a different .kmp file but my choice in the drop down menu is only "AS400.kmp. is there another place i can go to to get other keyboard assignments? also, i had the operations people check all the other desktops and they are all behaving the same way...another point that has me confused is that the "case" problem is only limited to the "alpha characters keys"..the other keys like the numerics, special characters, ( " , #, < , > } ! / ? ) all use the shift key correctly ! the "console" is the only device that is not a pc desktop...it works fine with the case settings..so i agree with you that its not an AS400 / seu problem. still stumped ! mike

If this just started to happen, I'm leaning towards a Client Access Service Pack problem. Go here: http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/access/ and compare the latest service pack for your iSeries Access release. If you're not at the latest, download it to your pc and run it; if you are at the latest, find the previous service pack and install it. Bill

bill, found out that the "client access feature" was loaded in aug 2004 via a pc upgrade..i think this is when the problem began. however , after further investigation i found out that my clients machine is at "V4R3M0" and the client acces is at "V3R2M0" both are now obsolete as well as unsupported versions. COULD THIS BE THE CRUX OF THE PROBLEM !.... still stumped....this has never happened to me before. mike

Just a guess but are you using the S/36 environment on the AS/400?? check with DSPJOB OPTION(*STSA) toward the bottom of the screen look for: Special environment . . . . . . . . . . . . : *S36 or it will show Special environment . . . . . . . . . . . . : *NONE If you are using the S/36 environment you can use the ENDS36 command to stop using and STRS36 wh you need to return to it.
