  • Hex representation for GS RS EOT

Caterpillar PDF417 barcode requires GS, RS, and EOT characters for Group Separator, Request to Send and End of Transaction. Hex representations are GS = 1D RS = 1E EOT = 04/EBCDIC 37. When using 1D or 1E in a data file, the values are incorrectly represented as spaces, of hex 40. Does anyone have recommendations on what would cause 1E and 1D to change to 40? Do you know how to create these special characters on the System i, formerly AS/400?

The x'1D' and x'1E' are not displayable characters but they are not x'40'. Using DBU file edit utility I entered the hex values as the 1st two characters in the example below: stuvwxyz¡¿ÐÝÞ®^£¥·©§¶¼½¾[]¯¨´×{ 11AAAAAAAAAAAAAABBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBC DE23456789ABCDEF0123456789ABCDEF0 Hope this helps a little...

I didn't exactly answer your question. You simply assign x'1D' or x'1E' to 1 character variable: GS = x'1D'
