  • Salvaging an Old AS/400

I know that the F10 is a CISC architecture machine as opposed to the current generation's RISC architecture. That said, any version of v4 WONT run on it. I believe the most recent version of OS/400 that will run on a CISC box is v3r6 or perhaps v3r7, but I know that no version v4rx will be compatible. Couldn't offer anything about the hardware options, although you could probably call an AS400 reseller & get some ideas.

    Salvaging an Old AS/400

At a company we recently acquired, my boss found an old AS/400 unplugged and sitting in the corner of the operations center. He asked me if there was any chance we could salvage the machine and use it as a test box. Its a Model F10 9404 running V3R2. Is it possible to upgrade this AS/400 with a network card and external CD Drive, as well as move the operating system to V4R2 or higher. Thanks.

You cannot extend the OS of a white box beyond V3R2M0 Dave
