The Linux Letter: Revving Up the RPMs
** This thread discusses the article: The Linux Letter: Revving Up the RPMs **
Barry, Thought I'd let you know that your articles "age" well. I recently installed Redhat 9.0 on a laptop. I read the article on AS400 connectivity and installed tn5250. I then found that IBM offered iseries Access for Linux. I did a make uninstall for tn5250. I tried to install iseries Access, but found I didn't have unixODBC. Your RPM article came in handy for that. I used up2date, but still didn't have the GUI configurator. I used the rpmfinder web site and found the needed package. Other than reading the book you coauthored, and articles like this, and piecing things together from the web, I know nothing about linux. However, I've been amazed at what's out there for no cost. Thanks, and I hope your column continues.
