Thanks Terry - that may work. By looking at the first position for a '4' or '5' and the fourth position for a blank I would assume that unless it's an extremely small transfer error messages will be picked up instead of transfer bytes.

Try looking for the same value but with a trailing space: "505 "

When reading the FTP outfile for error messages how do you differentiate between error message number 505 and the message 505000 bytes transfered?
