  • EGL or RAD tool generating PHP?

I have in house a iSeries 270 running V5R4. I have Zend Server running on V5R4.

I am a RPG programmer from way back. No EGL experience.

I have converted two companies with AS400's model 800 running green screen
apps to Web enabled applications using BCD's WebSmart ILE RAD tool.
I have worked with PHP off and on since 2002. I use a RAD tool CodeCharge
Studio that generates PHP. The application in PHP runs on my XP Pro PC
using a ODBC connection to the iSeries during design of application.
I publish the final application to iSeries as a PHP application running on the iSeries

My Environment is Windows XP Pro IE 7 Apache/2.2.4 (Win32) PHP/5.2.5 MySQL Server 5.0,

    iSeries V5R4, DB2, Zend Server 5.0

I use several RAD Web Application Development tools for multiple databases:

CodeCharge Studio is a visual web application builder and code generator that I use. It provides the environment for rapid application development. It is the most productive way to quickly create powerful, scalable, and secure web applications. The code generation engine, CodeCharge Studio generates professional-level server code in any of the following programming languages: ASP.NET (C# and VB), ASP 3.0, PHP4/PHP5, Java Servlets 2.2, JSP 1.1, ColdFusion 4.01, and PERL 5.0.

I use this tool for PHP applications . The link below shows how is works :

For two Clients using IBM iSeries system I use WebSmart IDE tools for development.

below is a link to shows how it works:.

When I work with HTML in the IDE of Websmart I use a external

tool I have had for quit a while, since 5.5 version It now up to Webeditor 8.

this shows how the tool works.

*I have Private Trucking Company, 9406 model 170 processor 2290 installed with 8GB. All their applications are in RPGII, flat files with a vary little CL. Can EGL be developed to run on this iSeries? They are on V4R5. There are 4 to 6 in house user of the system. *

I had a hour long phone conference with, Kirk Tolson, IBM General Business Client Rep, Tony Lopez, IBM Cross Brand Server Specialist and Ian Jarman World Wide Manager of IBM Power Systems Software.

Ian Jarman commented on my use of BCD's WebSmart and consideration of their PHP RAD Application Development tool as solid approach to conversion. I am concerned about cost to me and my clients for WebSmart and Zend. When I consider Development time to delivery, BCD's tech support has been the best I have ever experienced and has shorten the development time.

I am looking for comments on a Go forward **strategy and if EGL Applications will run on the small 170 iSeries.
