Opticonnect With Java

Can any one lead me in the right direction in finding information about how JAVA works in a Multi-Machine Environment. We are looking at creating some JAVA processes on our 400's but we want to make sure that we can access Files that are on another machine using OptiConnect(DDM files), if possible.

I don't think you need ddm...Java can bypass machines location aslong as they are connected by http. We partition our machine into four sections and I was able to move data from one partition to another without ddm. Our RPG programmers on the same machine had to go thru ddm.
