RPG and DB2: The Future Is Now (Part II)

First of all, this is the Readers Opinions Forum.... So I think that Facts are 100 percent Optional. But that's no excuse for all the Mixed Metaphors and Tired Cliches. Pleeeeaase.... I just had a big lunch so I need a few laughs to stay awake. So let's try to be ORIGINAL, Ok? And Q, Don't let him fool ya.... Mr. Pluta's not heading to New Orleans. I've got it on good authority that he's on his way to Roswell to study alien technologies. Hey, you don't really think that Widows NT was Developed by HUMANS, do you? You Grok ?? Mike

Thanks for the kudos. I appreciate it. It's nice to know that QM isn't the only one who reads my columns. I moved over the weekend, so I'm up to my eyeballs in boxes, and I fly to New Orleans tomorrow, so it's been interesting. But take heart; I'm going to iSeries DevCon, and despite rumors of the demise of RPG, they're still going strong. Joe Last edited by Guest; 03-04-2019, 03:45 PM.

Waste of breath, but what the heck. I have a minute: "IBM's Java Roadmap". There is no such thing. There is a Developer's Roadmap, and as I pointed out in the article, it is nothing more than an outline of the various strategies available, INCLUDING Java. Feel free to contact the author, Greg Hurlebaus, or the guy who promotes it, Doug Fulmer. In fact, feel free to do any kind of footwork at all and come back with facts rather than whatever it is you see in your tea. "Few if any colleges". This implies you feel there may be no colleges teaching RPG. Quite to the contrary, it's been stated clearly in these forums that various colleges and technical institutes still teach RPG, and some in fact include it as a base part of their IT curriculum. Of course, if you just did a Google on "RPG university courses", you'd know that. Not that I'd expect you to actually take the time to do something constructive like that. It seems that for you it's far more fun to lash the negativity beast and try to whip up some gloom and doom. Anyway, that's it for wasting time on rumor and innuendo. Don't expect any more responses until you have the common courtesy to do some research before posting. JoeLast edited by Guest; 03-04-2019, 03:45 PM.

Mock me if you will. I'm not accusing some columnist of being a space alien. I admit I just have some FOAF rumour. But it jives with everything else we all know. There are few colleges if any teaching RPG. Old fart RPG programmers are having to learn perl or c# to continue being gainfully employed. And don't forget IBM's Java "Roadmap", and the Unix subsystems on all IBM systems. The tea leaves are there to be read, and the message is clear. But unlike you, I'm looking forward to seeing that rumour clearly refuted, and not just mocked. qLast edited by Guest; 03-04-2019, 03:44 PM.

Joe, Joe, Joe. Is this a rumour you'd rather NOT get confirmed or denied? I'm sure you must have some good contacts in IBM. All you have to do is ask one of them. Or wait until the TOronto COMMON and see who's at the "Meet the Developers from the Toronto Lab" session and who's not. (I might even attend that seesion myself - there's nothing else good scheduled at that time!) qLast edited by Guest; 03-04-2019, 03:43 PM.

Your rose-coloured opinions are nice, but they don't jive with the "word on the street" in this city. Perhaps someone from IBM can confirm or deny the rumours about massive job cuts in the iseries department at the Toronto Lab? qLast edited by Guest; 03-04-2019, 03:42 PM.

Brilliant work done. I really was in love with RPG/DB2 and dreaded the fact that I would have to move away from them very soon. Thanks for the insightsLast edited by Guest; 03-04-2019, 03:42 PM.
