"The SHA algorithms were designed by the U.S. government, but in spite of that, they are very secure." Hey, it could happen! Maybe the designers were new employees and their brains hadn't been ruined by committee yet...

(BTW, veeeeeeery funny on the U.S. Government and SHA!) FWIW, I've used an MI-based hash application to create a hash for each and every source member on the system. A simple query finds duplicate source members very quickly. Good for cleaning up source files.

The crypto related software programming interfaces are shipped with the Base OS. No extra charge. There have been MI programming interfaces for crypto for a long time. The crypto APIs were introduced in V5R3. Key management APIs were introduced in V5R4. Hardware crypto co-processors are a separately chargeable product. The IBM CTC provides a separate set of APIs that work in conjunction with the hardware and/or software crypto packages. The CTC crypto package hides most of the key management function from the programmer. Crypto can be added to many applications by adding as few as two lines of code. There are also third-party solutions out there. Patrick Townsend and Associates and nuBridges come to mind immediately. There may be others. The nuBridges product automates adding crypto to applications to a great degree.

I am using v5R4M0. And I am facing error in encrypting data using RSA. I m getting an error

Either there is an error in the BER encoding or the BER encoded string describes an object not valid for this operation.

Is there anyone who has any clue in this type of error?

You might also want to check out Crypto Complete from Linoma Software at www.LinomaSoftware.com . It includes AES encryption support, key management (for PCI requirements) and detailed audit trails. Database fields can be automatically encrypted without making changes to your applications. Crypto Complete also includes IFS encryption and backup encryption. A free trial is available on their web site.
