http://echo.bluehornet.com/ct/286068...5DC0906EEDCC3E Excerpt: Partner TechTip: Secure Your AIX Inittab! Tips & Techniques - System Administration Written by Ashley Giddings Thursday, 09 April 2009 "Want to ensure that your system starts cleanly each and every time? Each time the system is started, the init program gets invoked. The inittab file describes which processes are started at system startup and during normal operation. It distinguishes between multiple run levels, each of which can have its own set of processes that are started. A simple change to the file can render the system unusable. What would happen if someone deliberately or inadvertently changed your inittab file, you didn't receive automatic alerts to unauthorized changes, and therefore and you didn't know it?" Can't AIX host a 'change management' tool like CVS? Why wouldn't a 'root' sysadmin secure config files so that only identified logons could change such files? Why is Giddings promoting a "solution in search of a problem", when all about us real workers are losing their livelihoods to H1-B 'gastarbeiter' and to the amazing greed of creeps like Sam Palmisano? http://www.mcpressonline.com/april-6...te-ethics.html
