  • Printing AFPDS and overlays to PCL or Postscript type printer

We acquired new Canon Multi-Function printers. We are able to print AS400 reports to these printers but have noticed some quirks. We cannot indicate a page range - the whole spool file will print. We are also having issues with reports that contain graphic content in overlays- some items do not line up properly and fonts have changed in some cases.

Our system administrator is looking at purchasing a software package to resolve these issues. IPDSXpress was tested but we still have the above mentioned quirks. We are going to test BlueServer (MFD's "Bluekit") but are not sure if this will be cost prohibitive if it does solve our issues.

Does anyone know if there are any PTFs that address these issues or how can we go about finding this out? Or is there a WSCST (workstation customizing object) that would work with this printer or how can we go about finding this out? Or any other ideas?

    Thanks for any assistance.

The proper configuration of any printer is essential to the accuracy of printing.

Check Canon's website, and technical support, they may be able to provide a WSCST object for you.

Review your existing device description for this printer. You may have to make changes, or even experiment with some of the settings.

Once that is done, you may have to create your own WSCST. This can be difficult, but also very rewarding when the right settings are reached.

to restart a printer on a specific page, I have found you need to enter not only the 'RESTART' parm but also the 'PAGERANGE' parm

      hope this helps
