Due to the number of people who have replied to me that they prefer a web-based format for viewing online messages, we are going to alter the newsgroup format for the NEWS.RJSSOFTWARE.COM site. We are going with a web-browser format as opposed to the newsgroup format for initial implementation. We have borrowed the news template from www.notes.net and have modified it for our usage. The modifications are not complete yet, but please wander over and take a look at the web-based interface and let me know if you like what you see. The biggest feature I like is the ability to view by date. This was the feature I liked best about the MRC forums. RJS Web Test Forum (Let me know if you can't view forum on port 8080 and I'll change the settings.) http://news.rjssoftware.com:8080/RJSTESTFORUM.NSF/AllViewTemplate?OpenForm User: RJSDEMO Password: RJSDEMO RJS Live Forum Web Address (When we go live) http://news.rjssoftware.com Please send your comments directly to my attention via email as the MRC forum may not be live much longer. You can also post a response here as well. I look forward to your feedback and participation in the new RJS AS/400 - iSeries Discussion Forum. Regards, Richard Schoen RJS Software Systems Inc. I didn't see my last post on the server, so here it is again.
The new URL for port 80 will be active tomorrow:

Thats exactly what I tried Chris. As I said it might be the firewall here at work that is real tough on some things. The error is: Error 400 - Proxy Error: On a tunneled request, the server could not connect to the requested partner on the requested port. Trevor

I understand the decision and why you're making it that way. It's just so much more efficient to use newsgroups/readers when your goal is substance over style. -- -Jeff The opinions expressed are my own and not necessarily the opinion of my company. Nope, can't get there using: http://news.rjssoftware.com:8080/RJSTESTFORUM.NSF/AllViewTemplate?OpenForm or any combination of cuts back to .com Is it because I'm behind a firewall? Trevor Trevs72@yahoo.com

Hello Jeff, Our goal will be to support both versions, however I think there are a large majority of users that use web browsers as opposed to news readers, so that's where we'll probably have to start until we establish a user base. Right now we're experimenting, but we should have a solid plan in the next two weeks or so. I looked at all the available canned packages that do both NNTP and the web browser and so far have not been able to find a package that does newsgroups with a web interface in a manner that is useful to most web users. Most products favor the news reader user. I appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to participate in the AS/400 news forums. If you know of any packages that do both NNTP serving and browser serving, please let me know and I will review them. Then we may be able to have the best of both worlds. More feedback please.....
