  • How do I locate companies that employ AS400 programmers in the PNW

I recently moved to the Pacific Northwest (Washington State) and am seeking employment. What is the most straightforward way of locating all companies between Seattle and Bellingham that employ AS400 applicaation programmers?

There are several search engines that can lead you to geographically specific companies. Two I would visit are: http://www.dice.com and http://www.jobcircle.com There are many others. Dave

Patty, Lots of options ... these pop into my head right away. 1. Find a GOOD headhunter (a.k.a. recruiter) 2. Local newspaper classified ads - employment section 3a, 3b, 3c. Join a local users group for a technology that you are interested in (e.g. Java, LANSA, and/or general AS/400, etc.) Also, search Egroups.com. They have several groups, a couple of which were aimed at specific geographic areas. Also also, Midrange Computing lists Users Groups by state: http://www.midrangecomputing.com/usergrp/default.cfm 4. Take an AS/400 related class at a local college (RPG, Java, etc.) and network with your classmates. I found 5 other AS/400 people in the Java class that I took recently. 5. If you know of specific companies in your area, go to their website and see if they have a "job opportunites" page. It should be obvious what machine(s) they are using by reading the job descriptions 6. Search online jobs sites (e.g. computerjobs.com) often they allow you specify a location in the search Good Luck!
