  • Installing printer with NetServer

I have a printer connected directly to the AS/400 that we have always used virtual print for from Word or Excel. I am trying to set up Shared Printing using NetServer and for some reason I can not get the printer to install in my NT desktop computer. I can ping the Q netserver name and I can do the find computer and then the open shows the shared print with no problem. but everytime I do the install, I receive the message "Could not connect to the printer. The printer name is invalid". I have tried setting up a new shared printer with a different name. I have tried adding a guest profile hoping that would resolve signon issues. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? I am at V4R4 and have loaded express 3.2.0

    Installing printer with NetServer

Lynne, There are numerous documents available from IBM regarding the configuration of NetServer. In fact, it used to have it's own page, but when I followed a link to it, it was disconnected. I'll give you some pages to go to and maybe you can find the info you need: http://as400service.rochester.ibm.co...1402188625680b 0002037e/d73ffe22f7a4b7ff862566d4006bcded?OpenDocument&Highlight=0,netserver,pri nt,share, printer, name, invalid http://as400service.rochester.ibm.co...1402188625680b 0002037e/17c06beba02bd0e0862566da005cc56d?OpenDocument&Highlight=0,netserver,pri nt,share http://as400service.rochester.ibm.co...1402188625680b 0002037e/07ab83674e2ac50e8625691b004e9387?OpenDocument&Highlight=0,netserver,pri nt,share http://as400service.rochester.ibm.co...3dab7b862565c9 004ec1af/94a4582a58d6b13886256729006e2fe9?OpenDocument http://as400service.rochester.ibm.co...1402188625680b 0002037e/39f8928861fcb6f2862565c2007c9e99?OpenDocument&Highlight=0,netserver,pri nt,share http://as400service.rochester.ibm.co...1402188625680b 0002037e/30e855ab0991e23c8625666d00589351?OpenDocument&Highlight=0,netserver,pri nt,share If none of these have helped, then you could go here for the search page and try some word combos of your own: http://as400service.rochester.ibm.co...m?Open&view=wc a bill

      Installing printer with NetServer

The web page is still active. Go to http://www.as400.ibm.com/netserver/index.htm and you will find helpful articules and links on how to set up network printers using AS/400 NetServer. I do believe there is a link to our Redbook also which has a whole chapter devoted to printer shares.
