I am having a problem with these two things eating up DASD. The machine is a 9406/170 running V5R1 that was set up by a consultant. I have user spaces and journal receivers dating back to September 2001 which is when the machine was set up. The cleanup options for journals is set to 14 days. Any ideas?

Problem with USRSPC and JRNRCV
You have Journal Receivers that are no longer attached and date back to September 2001? If the recievers are not attached then they can be deleted. I would save them first (were probably saved on at least one of your back ups) and then delete them. Deleting the Journal Recievers will get you a log of disk space back (normally). I would also try to determine if you need all the journalling you are doing. Most shops that I've been in do not journal because their back ups will be good enough. I don't know much about user spaces so I can't help any with them.
