  • client access windows 95 and v4r3

are there any known problems existing between client access windows 95 and v4r3? we currently have installed v3r7 which is working well and are considering upgrading to v4r3. Thanks for your help.

Vic, We haven't had any going from 3.2 to 3.7 to 4.2 to 4.3 to 4.4 to 4.5. Everything works fine and we have a mix of clients using CA 3.2, CA 4.4, and now CA 4.5. Possibly one reason is the strict use of TCP/IP, no more APPC/APPN connections. They did present some problems. Happy New Year. Jack

Vic, We are at v4r3 with a mixture of TCP/IP and APPC/APPN connections running from Win95. No major problems. Some comments: 1. TCP/IP is easy to setup but connections are more prone to drop during network congestion. 2. When setup properly, APPC/APPN is more stable than TCP/IP. However, setup is complicated, and memory requirements are much higher than TCP/IP. 3. In my experience, CA for DOS with APPC/APPN is the fastest and most solid of all connections. Most of our critical processing are done on PCs with CA for DOS and APPC/APPN connections. These number less than 5. Almost all others (over 300 of them), are now on TCP/IP running on Win95 and Win98. By the way, watch out for Windows 2000. It will require you to switch to a new client (CA Express) with a radically different set of requirements (and headaches).
