  • Auto Telnet from one 400 to another

We have a remote office currently connected to our AS/400 using 5494 Controllers over a 56k line. Most of the users still have Terminals. We are implementing a wan to that office. We have a 170 that is not currently being used and are thinking about putting it in the remote office to handle the communications and replace the 5494s. My question is this, is there a way to set it up so that when a user signs on to the 170 from a terminal, can we automatically Telnet them to the production machine without making them sign on a second time? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jim, What we do here is have a generic user profile set up for the remote users. This user and password could be setup as a macro for them to automatically signon to the 170, with an initial program that telnets them to the production system automatically. They would then just need to signon as themselves one time. This works as long as there isn't some reason for them to do work on the 170 system, too. This works well for us. Bruce
