  • Is it possible to verify the contents of a tape backup.

Noel, How much do you want to verify? You can perform a DSPTAP to a disk file on the /400 for verification. If you mean, object by object, you could compare the total number of objects in the library(ies) to the total number of objects on the tape and so on. I don't know of a default IBM command that does what you ask, however. -bret

On some previous systems I have worked on, it was possible to run a verify only option on the backup. This would read the data on tape and compare it with the data on disk. You could then be assured that the data was correct on tape. Is it possible to do a simple operation on the AS/400 ( without having to restore the data first). Thanks in advance. Noel.

I would just do a DSPTAP and for the datatype parameter use *SAVRST to list the libraries and the files that are saved within those libraries. I don't know of a command to verify and compare.
