  • Querying the System Log

Michael, a very simple approach to this is simply to run a DSPLOG command with parameter OUTPUT(*PRINT). You can then display the resulting spooled file and use the standard scan facility. The DSPLOG could easily be scheduled to run immediately after your overnight processing. Dave...

    Querying the System Log

I have heard there was a way that you could setup (or make a copy of then setup) the system log to be able to query it and/or do searches against it. Has anyone heard of this before?

      Querying the System Log

The history logs are stored in the qsys library, the files are named QHST****** where ****** is the date when the file was created. You can now open the file with query. There will be two records in the file. The first record I assume is the display record, this what you see when you type in dsplog qhst. The second record is more truncated , but it will give you the job name, number and start time etc. You can then use the substr function in query to read the second record, this will allow you to do your reporting on the logs.
