  • Externally-attached storage / servers

Does anyone know how externally-attached storage, like a Shark array, appears to the 400? It's not part of the single-level store, right? So does it appear as a directory on the IFS, or what? Also, is it possible to make a LAN-attached NT server appear on the IFS? It'd be great if we could just MOV or CPY objects to storage. If not, I suppose we could FTP it there. Would external storage be a mappable network drive to PC users? Thanks for any help.

I'm not familiar with the Shark Arrays, but I have had some experience with EMC Symmetrix arrays connected to AS/400 via a 650x SCSI card. If I remember correctly, the array emulated 9337 drives and was part of the normal single level storage. What I don;t remember is if it had to be confgured as a separate user ASP or not. In any case it worked really well. Access times were remarkable thanks to the very expensive cache memory in the Symmetrix. HTH. Marc Ornstein
