  • OS400 vs. Windows NT vs. UNIX

Can someone please direct me to a resource where I can get a performance evaluation, review or just learn more about the positives and negatives of running an application on an AS400 versus running it on a Windows NT box versus running it on a UNIX box? My concerns range from price to performance and everything in between. I would appreciate any input, suggestions, etc.

This is not something that may be answered by a reply on the forum, as there are so many variables involved. There is no universal answer here, and a great deal depends on the nature and scope of your application. Price/performance is also relative depending upon the number of concurrent users, and the size, and use of an RDBMS. You can find out much about OS/400 on this site. http://www.as400.ibm.com and http://www.search400.com are two more, with links to many others. Gartner Group and the Aberdeen group have done independent studies showing the AS/400 (i-series) to be the most cost effective platform over a five year period in general. The AS/400 also gives the greatest ROI. Dave

Look at this site http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/conslt/ The first report under 2000 compares NT versus the 400. Scott Mildenberger
