Best of Class Financial Software for the IBM i

Solutions for Users of IBM Power Systems including AS/400, iSeries, and System i

IBM’s i is arguably the most successful and enduring business computing platform ever developed. With its integrated operating environment, reputation for reliably and the ability to deliver rich business applications cost effectively, it has one the most loyal followings on any computing platform.

23-Year Commitment

UNIT4 CODA has a long history of developing financial software specifically for the i - including a very loyal community of customers that have been with us since the late 1980s on the original AS/400’s. As part of our 23 year alliance with IBM, we continue to work in close collaboration to bring our technologies closer together to simplify implementation, upgrades and usage for our joint customers.

Native i and DB2 Financial Software

UNIT4 CODA’s i financial software is specifically designed to provide IBM customers with the full power of our best-of-class financial applications - without the potential for unforeseen compatibility issues that can arise with ported solutions. The application was developed to run natively on DB2 and fully supports WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Express. The application leverages the i’s journaling capability to protect sensitive financial data and to aid in disaster recovery. As a result, CODA financial applications share the i platform’s well earned reputation for stability, data integrity, and security.

i Application Integration

The i’s integrated operating environment has always allowed businesses to focus on applications rather than the underlying platform. Hence, many businesses have built large catalogs of specialty applications -- vertical applications that run their businesses. UNIT4 CODA recognizes the need to coexist and integrate with these specialty and legacy applications whether they were built in RPG, Cobol, C or Java. We provide a variety of i-friendly integration technologies that support both real time and batch integration methods including web services, XML based APIs, and table-level integration for bulk data loading. As a Java based application itself, CODA Financials allows other applications to leverage CODA’s business logic by using embedded Java calls to communicate with CODA via web services. CODA’s application integration technology is ideally suited for mixed operating environments where business applications might need to be integrated across multiple Logical Partitions.

Single Integrated Financial Database on DB2

The AS/400 broke new ground when it was delivered with an integrated database in 1988. At the same time, CODA revolutionized accounting software when it was introduced with a single, unified financial database, now known as the single ledger.

Unlike most accounting systems delivered then (and today), CODA applied modern relational techniques to its financial application architecture -- allowing for a single, real time financial database rather than a set of databases that feed each other, waterfall style, using batch techniques from the 370 era. Furthermore, CODA innovated how financial data was captured in the chart of accounts with a relational structure that minimized maintenance and provided superior flexibility to track revenues and costs. When combined with DB2, CODA’s accounting architecture allows for unparalleled financial analysis and real time reporting -- a genuine advantage in today’s economic climate.
