On-Demand BI Meets On-Demand CRM

Cognos, the world leader in business intelligence and performance management solutions, and salesforce.com, the technology and market leader in on-demand business services, today announced two initiatives to provide joint customers with a more complete and consistent view of enterprise information for making better business decisions and driving improved performance.

Cognos has joined salesforce.comÆs AppExchange, the first on-demand directory and sharing service for business applications. With Cognos 8 Business Intelligence (BI) now listed on AppExchange, Salesforce Winter Æ07 customers will be able to learn how the zero-footprint, enterprise-class reporting and analysis capabilities can enable them to gain greater insight and understanding into sales and marketing initiatives. This announcement supports Cognos' vision of pervasive BI, making BI accessible to more people and enabling higher adoption of business intelligence for enhanced decision making and improved organizational performance. CognosÆ BI solution delivers easy-to-use BI with the right context, through familiar interfaces, at the right time. Now a new class of users, salesforce.com customers, can leverage a complete and proven BI solution to extend the value of information across the organization and gain answers to new business questions in the context of other corporate information.

In addition, Cognos announced the Cognos Data Adapter for Salesforce, which will provide both Salesforce and Cognos 8 BI customers with direct access to Salesforce data, and the ability to capture Salesforce information over time and combine it with other historical and transactional data from across the organization. As a result, decision makers at all levels will gain a more complete, consistent view of enterprise information from a single, complete BI solution. In addition, Cognos and salesforce.com customers will be able to view and interact with enterprise BI information within the context of familiar environments, including the enterprise portal, Microsoft Office, enterprise search, and mobile devices.

The Apex on-demand platform is generally available today. The Apex programming language is available today for developer preview, and is currently scheduled to be available in beta to salesforce.com customers later in 2007.
