VeriFone Holdings, Inc. has expanded its portfolio of wireless payment systems with the announcement of the Vx 670 Bluetooth, a new version of its hand-held unit designed for short-distance environments.

The new Vx 670 Bluetooth is ideal for smaller retailers who want the advantage of wireless without having to deal with cellular accounts or Wi-Fi installation. The system also provides the option to integrate wireless communication with traditional landline telecommunications through a modem contained in the Vx 670 Bluetooth's communications station.

"This combines the portability and consumer-friendly features of our Vx 670 with virtually 'plug-and-play' wireless installation," said Paul Rasori, VeriFone vice president of global product marketing. "Vx 670 Bluetooth provides the option of utilizing wireless mobility and flexibility with land line telecommunications—still a very common form of payment authorization—or with broadband."

Utilizing the Bluetooth 2.0 wireless protocol, the Vx 670 Bluetooth provides an easy-installation secure wireless payment system that is ideal for restaurants and other businesses with limited-distance requirements. Adding to the largest wireless payment system portfolio in the world, VeriFone is able to provide a payment solution for every type of retailer need.

Vx 670 Bluetooth is a highly secure solution. The communications station is only discoverable for a brief period after power-on to establish a secure link with the handheld devices, which are not discoverable by other Bluetooth devices. No transaction data is stored in the PCI PED approved system, and customer PINs are never transmitted without additional encryption.

The Vx 670, in GPRS, WiFi, and now Bluetooth configurations, is the smallest all-in-one wireless handheld payment device in the world, with a hidden integrated printer, according to the company.

Built with the consumer in mind and utilizing VeriFone's patent-pending MAXui design, the Vx 670 has a large, high-resolution, white backlit display and large, blue backlit keys in a tapered design that is suited for even the smallest hands. A rugged, drop-resistant, spill-resistant case holds up to the most demanding conditions.

VeriFone also announced an agreement with POSitouch to offer VeriFone's ON THE SPOT mobile electronic payment systems with the POSitouch Point-of-Sale (POS) systems to restaurant operators in North America.

The POSitouch system is focused solely on the hospitality industry with technologically advanced solutions that have been installed in more than 26,000 locations. VeriFone will work with POSitouch to market the enhanced restaurant solutions to existing and new customers.

The POSitouch fully integrated payment solution with ON THE SPOT will allow restaurant operators to improve the customer experience, increase efficiency and strengthen card holder data security.

The POSitouch/VeriFone solution increases card data security because the card remains in the customer's sight during the transaction. When the card leaves the table or the car, it is susceptible to "skimming," the stealing of the customer's data, which has become a common form of identity theft.
