ActiveBatch Job Scheduling Software Earns Kudos for ASC

Study of 13 workload automation providers finds that Advanced Systems Concepts’ ActiveBatch competes "fiercely on price,” has a “broad span of platform and application support.” 

Advanced Systems Concepts (ASCI), maker of ActiveBatch workload automation and job scheduling software and other solutions that enhance IBM i, AIX, Linux, z/OS, Windows, UNIX, and Open VMS systems among others, has announced that ActiveBatch was rated a “Strong Value” in “Workload Automation Q1 2010—An EMA Radar Report,” a detailed workload automation (WLA) study conducted by leading industry analyst firm Enterprise Management Associates (EMA). 

The 53-page study, which compared 41 WLA products from 13 vendors on multiple dimensions including ease of deployment, functionality, vendor strength and cost advantage, found ActiveBatch to be a “robust consolidated job scheduling solution with a very slick interface.” It also stated that “ActiveBatch competes fiercely on price against larger vendors” and “has a broad span of platform and application support.” 

Deployed at enterprises in 37 countries, ActiveBatch is a cross-platform job scheduler and workload automation solution that allows enterprises to centrally manage disparate jobs and workflows, including tasks involving the most common operating systems, enterprise business applications, and even Web Services. From a central dashboard, users can leverage ActiveBatch’s Integrated Jobs Library to perform sophisticated IT process automation, correlate events and perform business impact analysis; its event-based architecture and “production-ready” job steps help users quickly and efficiently expedite the IT workload automation process. 

Supporting IBM i (i5/OS), AIX, Linux, z/OS, Windows, UNIX, and Open VMS platforms and applications, as well as Web Services and SOA, ActiveBatch also allows users to optimize enterprise resources through high availability failover and load balancing.  Advanced reporting services, in the form of a multi-dimensional OLAP database, give IT organizations the information needed for better decision-making, the company says. 

The EMA Radar Report for Workload Automation evaluates current software solutions within the framework of a broader WLA maturity roadmap.  For inclusion in the report, vendors had to offer consolidated cross-platform job scheduling, resource optimization, and ITSM (IT Service Management) integration.  Final rankings were determined via in-depth analyst evaluations based on product fit, customer feedback, and EMA perception of market importance.
